Put You on Your List of Things to Do!

Some of us ladies are in the routine of taking care of everyone and everything around us without putting ourselves on the never-ending list of things to do.  You might even think that if you put yourself on the list, well that's just selfishness, but I am here to tell you - that can’t be further from the truth.  It is just as important to take care of yourself so you can be the best version of yourself and have more to give.  If you are not taking care of yourself then eventually the neglect will show itself through symptoms such as decreased energy, stress, a poor mental outlook, emotional outbreaks, health issues or relationship problems. 

Know Yourself to Love Yourself

Happiness is the ultimate goal. If you are forcing yourself to do things that you think are good for you, but you are not genuinely enjoying them or doing them for the wrong reasons then you are not receiving the benefits.  Taking a weekend ski trip when you hate skiing or booking a pedicure when you don’t like people touching your feet is not listening and being true to you. Give yourself permission to be happy without fear, guilt or judgment and allow yourself the time and space to really listen to your heart and ask yourself, what do I need in this moment and at this time in my life?

A Few Simple Self-Love Ideas

Taking care of yourself should ease any stress you might have, not create more.  So make it simple, make it fun and make it just for you!

  1. Take Time Outs. 

    Walking away is ok.  Recognize when you need a break from whatever you are doing and take that much-needed time out to recharge and reset your mind.  A time out can be as simple as a walk, a nap, a 10-minute meditation or you might need a more extended time-out such as a weekend getaway to the beach or the mountains.  
  2. Pamper Yourself.  

    As part of my morning routine, I like to sit and read with my hot coffee or tea. I wrap both hands around the cup until my hands are toasty warm.  I then take my hands and massage the back of my neck and place them gently over my eyes. Another idea is to keep lavender oil on your nightstand and rub the oil into your feet before drifting off to sleep.  Or how about some candles and soft music paired with a face mask while soaking in a soothing bath.
  3. Nourish Mindfully. 

    Nourish yourself, and you will feel loved. Can you think of what eats or drinks that would make you happy and that would also be good for you? When my kids are sick, I make them homemade chicken noodle soup.  If I need some self-love, I make myself a big pot of vegetable stew that I can freeze and have ready whenever I need some comfort food for love. Or for a quick fix, I make myself a cup of hot tea and add some honey as a special treat since I usually skip the sweets. I also carry water with me all day as I know my body and skin are feeling the love when I am hydrated.
  4. Stretch, Soothe & Move. 

    Get moving! A splash of just 10 minutes of movement here and there throughout the day adds up. Take a short walk, get out that blanket, towel or Yoga mat and give yourself a  treat of creating space in your body and mind with a stretch routine. End it with a beautiful, big full body stretch. Reaching those toes in one direction and fingers extending overhead, 
  5. Laugh. 

    Can you remember the last time you laughed? If not, it might be time to turn the world off, turn the tv on and find one of your favorite funny tv shows or movies that will have you in stitches.  When I need some comic relief, I like to visit a gag store to find some pranks or funny gifts to share some giggles and laughter with friends and family. Another favorite way to get some laughs is to visit a comedy club and have some fun while supporting the art of comedy.
